Trees for the 21st Century patch

Our Trees for the 21st Century patch features Dr. Wangari Maathai, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts towards democracy, human rights, and environmental conservation. Over the past 30 years, with both public and private support, Dr. Maathai’s Greenbelt Movement has planted over 30 million trees in Kenya, Africa. In 2006, Wangari challenged Trees for the 21st Century to plant one billion trees worldwide, which became the inspiration for our program, Trees for the 21st Century.

Trees for the 21st Century is a unique educational and tree-planting program for children of all ages, involving science-based learning, tree-planting, and ongoing stewardship activities.

Through the Trees for the 21st Century initiative, we aim to teach children about the value of the environment; expand the world inventory of trees to protect and improve natural resources; and to help children value long term stewardship of trees, Earth’s “perfect organic machines.”

Order now for the Fall season!

Tree Kits

Please note that you will need to determine your planting date and location prior to placing your order. We do not provide planting locations. We encourage plantings within your communities - parks, neighborhoods, schools, etc. You may also want to reach out to your local Parks and Recreation Director, City Arborist, Urban Forester, or County Extension office. They are a great source for advice on how to get started, materials needed, planting techniques, and who to notify ("Call Before You Dig"). They may also be able to provide contact information for local or area tree planting organizations.

Tree seedlings are shipped during the fall and spring only. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, tree species are pre-selected by Arbor Day, appropriate by hardiness zone. Trees are sent according to your local climate and this year's weather. Please indicate in the comment section of your order, any local ordinances or policies regarding tree plantings (i.e., banned varieties, drought conditions; etc.).

Bagged bare root trees This bag contains 10 bare root seedlings.

You will be receiving bare-root seedlings that are dormant, or asleep. The deciduous seedlings will be generally leafless, and the evergreens may have a few yellow needles from the winter cold. Fall shipments are made between the beginning of November and mid-December. Spring shipments are made between the beginning of March and mid-May. Plant the trees carefully according to the instructions that will be provided, water them well, and allow several weeks for them to put buds out in the spring. The trees are guaranteed, so please contact us, if there is a problem.

Tree orders must be placed 15 business days prior to your event date, to ensure timely delivery. Tree shipments will be scheduled to arrive two (2) days prior to event date. They will be shipped via UPS, so a street address is required.
