Trees for the 21st Century patch

Our Trees for the 21st Century patch features Dr. Wangari Maathai, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts towards democracy, human rights, and environmental conservation. Over the past 30 years, with both public and private support, Dr. Maathai’s Greenbelt Movement has planted over 30 million trees in Kenya, Africa. In 2006, Wangari challenged ERTHNXT to plant one billion trees worldwide, which became the inspiration for our program, Trees for the 21st Century.

Trees for the 21st Century is a unique educational and tree-planting program for children ages 6 to 18, involving science-based learning, tree-planting, and ongoing stewardship activities.

Through the Trees for the 21st Century initiative, we aim to teach children about the value of the environment; expand the world inventory of trees to protect and improve natural resources; and to help children value long term stewardship of trees, Earth’s “perfect organic machines.”

Plant Trees and Have Fun with your
Troop or Group!

We offer Tree Kits that provide everything a youth group and leader need to take action and enhance learning through tree planting and related activities.

ERTHNXT organizes volunteer tree-planting events for children and youth to supplement our self-led Tree Kits and Activity Guides.

ERTHNXT has created a safe online community for children and their mentors to share their tree planting experiences and report stewardship efforts.
