Trees provide us shade, fruits, nuts, wood, paper and air -- we need trees to help us thrive. Wildlife depend on trees as well as habitat (providing food, cover, places to raise young and to help clean the water and clean the air). Wildlife use trees to provide them food – from the nuts and berries they produce, trees provide homes and places to raise young – whether a nest or a burrow or using a tree that has fallen as a den, trees provide cover – hiding in the leaves, in holes in trees, or behind trees or in its limbs, and trees help to clean water wildlife need by filtering water through its bark and roots or stabilizing banks along a stream or river.
